An occasional click can be part of normal refrigeration operation. Repeated clicking together with warming food or failed cooling is different. The sound alone does not establish whether the compressor, starting equipment, power supply or control system is at fault, and different models use different compressor arrangements.
Record how often the clicking occurs, where it seems to come from and whether either compartment still cools. Note any recent power interruption and temperature warning. Keep doors closed where possible and make safe arrangements for perishable food; you cannot judge food safety by smell alone.
Check the temperature setting and visible door closure without removing covers or moving a heavy fridge. Do not repeatedly unplug and reconnect it to force a start. If there is burning, overheating or an electrical warning, stop using it and obtain appropriate help.
A technician needs to establish the electrical and cooling conditions before condemning a compressor. Start components are not interchangeable between models. Sealed-system work and refrigerant handling require appropriate expertise; a clicking noise is not a basis for ordering a generic repair kit.
